The Science & The Method
What is the difference between an Exercise Physiologist and a personal trainer? As an Exercise Physiologist with a degree in Kinesiology, my focus goes beyond general fitness. I study the body's responses to physical activity at a cellular and systemic level. This allows me to work safely with clinical populations, chronic illnesses, and complex injury patterns, bridging the gap between medical rehabilitation and daily performance.
What makes “Simmplyfit” different? The double "M" in Simmplyfit represents the Simms family grit—a philosophy of resilience and consistency. My approach is body-neutral and safe, focusing on the "why" behind every movement. We don’t push for "no pain, no gain"; we move with intention to build a body that supports the way you actually live.
How many sessions until I start feeling a difference? Joseph Pilates famously said, "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body." While everyone is unique, most clients report improved body awareness and reduced tension within their first 5 sessions.
Navigating Chronic Conditions & Injury
Can I do Pilates if I have a herniated disc or chronic back pain? Yes. In fact, Pilates is often the gold standard for back health. Because I specialize in corrective exercise, we focus on spinal decompression, core stabilization, and pelvic alignment. We move at your body’s pace to build the support your spine needs to move pain-free.
How does movement help with autoimmune recovery like Lyme disease? Recovering from Lyme disease is a journey of managing energy and inflammation. My personal experience with Lyme taught me that "pushing through" can often cause setbacks. We use low-impact, restorative movement to improve circulation and joint mobility without overtaxing the nervous system, helping you rebuild your baseline of strength.
Is this a replacement for Physical Therapy? No. I often work in tandem with Physical Therapists. Once you have been "discharged" from PT but don't yet feel ready for a big-box gym, work either me is the bridge. I help you take the exercises you learned in therapy and integrate them into a full-body strength and longevity practice.
Logistics & Preparation
I’m an athlete; will this actually improve my performance? Absolutely. Many athletes have "power" but lack stability and coordination. By focusing on functional patterns and joint health, we reduce your risk of injury and improve your "power transfer." Whether you are skiing in the Sierras or playing tennis, you’ll find you have more control and durability.
Do I need to be flexible to start? Not at all. Flexibility is a result of the work, not a prerequisite. We meet your body exactly where it is today—stiff, tired, or recovering—and guide it toward better mobility at a sustainable pace.
Do I need to be in shape to start?
Not at all. Sessions are designed to meet you where you are. Whether you’re returning from injury, getting back into movement, or starting fresh, everything is tailored to your current ability.
Do you work with injuries or chronic pain?
Yes. Post-rehabilitation and injury recovery are a core part of my work. I focus on safe, progressive movement to help you rebuild strength and confidence.
What’s the difference between Pilates and your virtual sessions?
In-person Pilates sessions use specialized equipment for targeted, supported movement.
Virtual sessions focus on strength, mobility, and functional training.
How often should I come?
Most clients start with 1–2 sessions per week. Consistency is key, and we’ll determine the best plan based on your goals and schedule.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Grip socks are recommended for in-person Pilates sessions.
Do I need equipment for virtual sessions?
No. We can work effectively with bodyweight and simple props. If you choose to add equipment, I’ll guide you on what’s most useful.
Where are you located?
In-person Pilates sessions are held in a professional studio in the Sonora. All other sessions are available via Zoom.
Do you offer packages?
Yes. Most clients choose packages to support consistency and long-term progress. You can view options on the Pricing page.
What if I’ve never done Pilates before?
That’s completely fine. Everything is guided step-by-step, and sessions are tailored to your experience level.
